Alpacas

Recently, we were invited to a moveable feast that started at Blonde Velvet and Me alpaca farm up Snowden Road apiece (oh, about 13.5 miles). Carol and Rick's farm is part of what was the town of Snowden. They think their house might have been a general store. We sat outside with great views of Mt. Adams and had appetizers, salad and wine.

And took pictures of the very sweet alpacas. Last time we saw them, they were fuzzy. They now have their summer haircuts.

The first picture is of the mommas and babies.

Next are the 'teenagers'.

The others are my favorite young guys.

I learned that they don't like hands, as in when you want to pet one, they won't like it. They do like noses. So rather than hold out your hand, you should get down to their level and offer your nose. They will respond in kind.

Very cool animals. And they hum. They really do.

Carol showed us the bags and bags of newly shorn fleece in her TV/fitness room which doubles as a storage area for the valuable soft and fluffy fleece before it is shipped off to be made into fabulous clothing. If you are ever in Hood River, stop into her shop, The Enchanted Alpaca. I dare you to look but not touch...

Across the street at Gail and Jay's, we had BBQd hamburgers and chicken, and everyone's side dishes. And homemade cherry ice cream. Their house used to be the old Post Office!

We are getting to know some wonderful people here in paradise. Thanks for a great evening!

They look like they're from outer space! And I mean that in a good way.
